RAES 10-Minute Engagement & Retention Self-Check

A quick check to help you step back and look at what’s happening in your RAES delivery right now - what’s working, what’s not, and where to focus first to get maximum impact.

It's not an assessment, just a way to spot where the most pressure is right now.

If useful, you can also look at our broader RAES Provider Support.

Tick the statements that feel true for your service at the moment.

1. Engagement

▢ We have a simple way for people to get started that doesn’t rely on online forms or too much paperwork.

▢ Our engagement still works even when attendance is up and down (pay cycles, family commitments, people moving around).

▢ We’ve got a way to bring people back in when they drop off early, without starting everything again.

▢ What we’re offering feels relevant and worth turning up for, even where there aren’t many local job options.

▢ Our approach is grounded in community, not just driven by the provider.

2. Follow-through

▢ People leave each interaction knowing what happens next and who’s going to support them.

▢ We’ve got a simple rhythm for following people up that actually happens in practice.

▢ The team has a practical way to track next steps without it turning into more admin.

▢ We’ve found ways of working that still make sense within the current compliance and funding set‑up (not just how things should work).

3. Retention and support

▢ When someone needs extra support (practical or wellbeing), we know where to connect them.

▢ The team has time to check in and debrief so things don’t build up or drift.

▢ Cultural and community responsibilities are recognised in a way that’s workable day‑to‑day (not just acknowledged).

4. Team capacity and pressure

▢ Caseloads are manageable enough for staff to build relationships, not just meet requirements.

▢ Staff have somewhere to go for support or mentoring when things get complex.

▢ We’ve got simple ways to build staff confidence in working with participants, not just training on systems.

Turn this into next steps

If one section has only 0–1 items ticked, that’s likely to be where the most pressure is right now in your RAES delivery.

A good place to start is to identify one small change you can test in over the next 2-4 weeks.

If a couple of areas are low, start with the one that’s putting the most strain on your team.

If you want to talk it through

If this has picked up the pressure points in your team’s day-to-day, a 45‑minute check‑in can help you work out where to focus first.

Have an obligation free yarn with one of our experienced First Nations workforce trainers to discuss how to narrow your focus on what’s actually workable in your setting over the next 90 days.

(No prep needed — we’ll walk through it together)
